Two Canoes Press is proud to announce

The Unraveling Thread, an exciting new novel by award-winning author, Priscilla Cogan.  Dr. Cogan has won the Small Press Award for Fiction, And The Body Mind Spirit Award.  Her books have been presented by the Book Of The Month Club and have been published in ten languages around the world.

June 22, 2008 The Unraveling Thread hits #1 in Northern Michigan

Where is Mary Poppins when you really need her?

Divorced Harriet McWhinnie returns home from her high finance job to discover that the newest Agency person has fled the house, leaving Harriet's young son in the care of her demented (and naked) mother, her teenage adolescent twins (one psychotic, one not) screaming at each other, and a dog that's bonkers. Desperate, she hires Agatha, a middle-aged Native American woman, with a mysterious past and a commanding presence. Such are the tangled threads Cogan weaves in The Unraveling Thread, illustrating both the family ties that bind and the family binds that tie us all to Home.

Coming November 2008, Requiem For Locusts, a dynamite novel by first time novelist, Wendy Parciak.

"I think my head is so full it might burst and the people here could fly around like frantic locusts for their whole lives ... I think something is going to change soon, something must change, but whether this is good or bad I do not know."

In an incredible tour de force, Wendy Parciak drops you into the experience of a young woman's disordered mind and how her odd behavior sends shock waves throughout the seemingly placid neighborhood, forcing the larger-than-life characters to creep out of their alienated shells, as they confront the mirrors of their own selves when reflected in the madness of another. Requiem For Locusts is a story of transformation that will make you both grin and weep.

Look for them in your local book store or on line. Both books will feature for the first time in fiction the genetic disorder Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome (Deletion of chromosome 22q11), a common but little known condition.  For more information on VCFS visit the National Institute of Health.
